Alumnus Named New Campus Minister

St. Gregory’s University announced Monday the hiring of alumnus Victor Poole as its new campus minister. Poole replaces Diane Willis, who served in the position for two years. Poole, a 2009 graduate of SGU, is a certified secondary mathematics teacher and spent the last year instructing Pre-Algebra at Shawnee Middle School. He also has experience as a part-time religious education teacher at St. Benedict Church in Shawnee.

As SGU’s campus minister, he will organize student and university liturgies, develop and supervise service and mission trip opportunities, and provide catechetical and faith formation activities. He also will coordinate the Buckley Team, which is a student retreat ministry at SGU. Poole was a member of the team for three years as a student.

Poole said he anticipates a busy 2010-11 academic year for the campus ministry program. Among the events scheduled to be hosted on the Shawnee campus is the Oklahoma Catholic Student Conference, which is an annual gathering of the state’s Catholic college students.

SGU’s campus ministry program provides many services to students, including scheduled liturgies, bible studies, praise and worship, and retreats. Students also are given the opportunity to participate in various campus ministry-sponsored service projects throughout the year.

St. Gregory’s University is an authentically Roman Catholic University. Founded in 1875, it is Oklahoma’s oldest institution of higher learning. Further information regarding St. Gregory’s University can be found at www.stgregorys.edu or by calling 1-888-STGREGS.
