ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

St. Gregory’s University offers a curriculum that integrates the breadth and scope of a classical liberal arts education with the professional focus of more than 25 major areas of study in five degree programs.

The Common Core Curriculum is a series of courses required of all students in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The heart of this curriculum is our distinctive “Tradition and Conversation” program. This four-semester sequence of “Great Books” seminars provides students the opportunity to actively engage, interact with, and learn from some of the most important minds and texts of the Catholic and Western intellectual tradition. Small learning communities meet each week to wrestle with and discuss the works of Homer, Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Benedict, St. Thomas Aquinas, Dante, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Flannery O’Connor and Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Common Core Curriculum also includes courses which represent and examine “Four Ways of Knowing” - Faith and Reason, Creative Expression, Social and Behavioral Science, Mathematics and Natural Science.

Students also choose a major area of study in one of five basic degree programs – business, humanities, natural science, social science or theology. Each major provides students with in-depth study in a particular academic discipline while at the same time ensuring that they are acquainted and conversant with some of the broader interdisciplinary questions and concerns related to that area of study.
