Freshman and Transfer Merit Scholarships
2010-2011

The exceptional life and academic lessons learned at St. Gregory’s University are invaluable. Fortunately, it is also one of the most affordable private universities in the country. In addition, more than 90% of our full-time students receive some form of financial aid. Our admissions and financial aid counselors will do all they can to maximize the affordability of this uniquely beneficial education.

GREGORIAN SCHOLARSHIP (2 awarded annually)
Named in honor of Pope St. Gregory the Great, this scholarship is the University’s highest academic award for first-time freshmen. This is a full-tuition scholarship (exceeding $60,000 over four years). The Gregorian Scholarship is an exclusive award that stands alone. It may be paired only with the Cardinal Newman Catholic Grant.
Requirements:
     3.75 or higher HS GPA, and
     29 or higher ACT or equivalent SAT
     Must maintain 3.5 cumulative GPA
     Must reside on campus
 

CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP (5 awarded annually)
The Chancellor’s Scholarship recognizes high academic achievement in first-time freshmen. This award is $11,000 annually ($44,000 over four years). The Chancellor’s Scholarship is an exclusive award that stands alone. It may be paired only with the Cardinal Newman Catholic Grant.
Requirements:
     3.6 or higher HS GPA and
     27 or higher ACT or equivalent SAT
     Must maintain 3.5 cumulative GPA
     Must reside on campus
 

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP (40 awarded annually)
The Presidential Scholarship is available to first-time freshmen and transfer students who demonstrate academic success. The award is $7,500 annually ($30,000 over 4 years).
Requirements:
     3.25 or higher HS GPA (first time freshmen) or
     3.3 or higher College Cum. GPA (transfer students)
     23 or higher ACT or equivalent SAT (first-time freshman students only)
     Must maintain 3.0 GPA
 

SAINTS BENEDICT AND SCHOLASTICA GRANTS (100 first-time freshman and 50 transfer awarded annually)
The Saints Benedict and Scholastica Grants are available to first-time freshmen and to transfer students. This award is $5,000 annually ($20,000 over 4 years).
Requirements:
     2.5 or higher HS GPA and 18 or higher ACT or equivalent SAT (first-time freshmen)
     2.0 or higher College Cum. GPA (transfer students)
 

ST. HILDEGARD OF BINGEN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FINE ARTS (60 awarded annually)
St. Hildegard of Bingen was a Benedictine Abbess known for her gifts of artistic expression. Scholarships awarded in her honor recognize the gifts of talented students who will contribute to St. Gregory’s rich tradition of excellence in Fine Arts. These discretionary scholarships range from $500 to $3,000 and are awarded by program directors in dance, theatre, vocal music and visual arts.

BLESSED KATERI TEKAKWITHA TRIBAL SCHOLARSHIP
In honor of the first Native American to be declared “Blessed” by the Roman Catholic Church, this scholarship is a matching grant for tribal scholarships up to $6,500 annually.   It is an exclusive award that stands alone. It may be paired only with the Cardinal Newman Catholic Grant.
Requirements:
     Receipt of a tribal scholarship from any tribe
     Admission to St. Gregory’s University
 

ST. SEBASTIAN ATHLETIC AWARDS 
In honor of St. Sebastian, patron saint of athletes, these discretionary awards recognize the gifts of talented student-athletes who will continue St. Gregory’s legacy of sportsmanship and excellence in competition.  Varsity coaches determine recipients and amounts of St. Sebastian Athletic Awards.  These are exclusive awards that stand alone. They may be paired only with the Cardinal Newman Catholic Grant. 
 
 

OTHER FUNDING
In addition to St. Gregory’s programs, you may also be eligible for federal and state grants, loans and work study.  Those programs are “need-based” and comprise the majority of financial aid available to university students.  Those programs require the completion of a FAFSA form.  SGU strongly encourages applicants to apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon after January 1 as possible for maximum consideration.
