St. Gregory’s Alum to Perform at OMTA Conference
Gabriela Weigel, a 2014 graduate of St. Gregory’s University, will perform at the 85th Annual Oklahoma Music Teachers Association (OMTA) state conference held May 29 – May 31.
Weigel, a lyric coloratura soprano from Irving, Texas, was an Upper Division winner of the OMTA Collegiate Competition that was held during the 2013-2014 school year, in which she received a monetary award and the opportunity to perform in the Winners Recital at the OMTA conference. This will be her second year to perform at the OMTA conference.
“It’s a blessing and an honor to be able to perform at my second OMTA Winners Recital, especially when only a few short years ago, no one knew I could even sing,” said Weigel.
She has performed as a soloist at the National Right to Life Convention in Washington, D.C. and in Dallas, Texas. In her time at St. Gregory’s, Weigel performed a number of solos for St. Gregory’s chorale, Scola Cantorum, including “The Requiem” by Fuare and won the “Outstanding Voice Student” award. She was a vocal student of Dr. Don Clark.
“Working with Dr. Clark has been an irreplaceable experience, made possible by attending a university like St. Gregory’s where I have been able to not only focus on my own specified area of study, but also to branch out and develop skills in other areas that I didn’t even know I had,” said Weigel.
The OMTA State Conference Winners Recital will take place on Friday, May 30at 4 p.m. in the Gussman Concert Hall at the University of Tulsa.
