St. Gregory’s University is pleased to announce that Ralph C. Wood, Ph.D., Professor of Theology and Literature at Baylor University, will deliver the keynote address for its Spring Commencement Ceremony to be held on Saturday, May 6.

(Shawnee, Okla. – April 26, 2017) Dr. Vickie Jean, Chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at St. Gregory’s University, was named the Oklahoma Psychological Society (OPS) 2017 Faculty Member of the Year. This award is given annually by OPS, is voted upon by student representatives, and is recognized by faculty at other institutions as a mark of distinction in the field.
St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, is recommended in the 2017-2018 edition of The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, a publication of The Cardinal Newman Society that recommends 29 Catholic colleges, universities and higher education programs for excellence in faithful Catholic education.
On Wednesday, April 12, five students and one alum from St. Gregory’s University had the opportunity to attend an Oklahoma City Thunder game and got a behind-the-scenes look into a typical game-day with the voice of the Thunder, Brian Davis, prior to the tip off.
“I’m really glad we had an opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business,” said Payton Fite, a senior communication studies student. “We got to see how Brian prepares for being ‘The Voice of the Thunder,’ and experience all of the things that go on backstage before a Thunder game.”

The St. Gregory’s University Schola Cantorum will present its Sacred Choral Concert, Prayer at the End of the Day, on Sunday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in the St. Gregory’s Abbey Church. Under the direction of Br. Damian Whalen, O.S.B., the group will perform multiple pieces of polyphonic sacred music.
St. Gregory’s University dance students Natalie Isaacs and Ryoko Sano will debut their senior dance show Virutes on Friday, April 21 at 8 p.m. in the Sarkeys Performing Arts Center.
As part of their senior project, Isaacs and Sano worked together to choreograph, design and plan Virtues. According to Sano, the performance will revolve around the Cardinal virtues justice, fortitude, temperance and prudence.
“I am happy that we can share these pieces in our senior dance show,” said Sano.
St. Gregory’s University and the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) will be hosting a community blood drive Tuesday, April 25 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Great Room of the Rockwood Center on St. Gregory’s Shawnee campus.
Each donor will receive a t-shirt, health screening and Donor Rewards points, which are redeemable for items in OBI’s online store. Donors also have the option to forgo receiving a t-shirt to help donate to the Global Blood Fund (GBF), which helps support struggling blood centers around the world.
The St. Gregory's University campus community is grieving the loss of Dr. James Meyer, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
A memorial service with Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee on Friday, April 28, at 10 am. The church is located at the corner of Highland and Broadway.
The St. Gregory’s University Pro-Life Team will host an Easter Egg-Stravaganza on Sunday, April 23 from 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. The Egg-Stravaganza will take place on the mound in front of Benedictine Hall on St. Gregory’s campus. There will be food, carnival games, prizes and an Easter egg hunt for families and kids of all ages to enjoy.
“The St. Gregory’s Pro-Life Team has worked incredibly hard to put together this event for the entire community,” said Mary Grace Dostalik. “We hope that the day will be full of and excitement for all ages."
This year St. Gregory’s University had six teams compete in the Small Business Division of the Love’s Entrepreneur’s Cup competition by submitting written business plans. One of the teams, Mad Batter, advanced to the semifinal round on April 6, where they presented their plan to a panel of judges, and then to the final round, where they did another presentation to a different panel of judges on April 7. They will attend the awards ceremony on April 13 to find out the final results of the competition.
