St. Gregory’s University Accepted to Registered Apprenticeship-College Consortium

St. Gregory’s University has recently been accepted into the Registered Apprenticeship-College Consortium (RACC). St. Gregory’s is the first institution of higher education in Oklahoma to partner with the United States Department of Labor, Office of Employment and Training Administration and join the consortium.

A Year of Mercy: St. Gregory’s Student Places in National Essay Contest

Austin Stone, a junior at St. Gregory’s University majoring in Philosophy and Psychology, took second place and won $100 in the 2015 Year of Mercy Contest. The contest was hosted by the Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal at Ava Maria University and was created to encourage recognition of Pope Francis’s declaration of an extraordinary jubilee Year of Mercy, which began on December 8, 2015 and welcomed entries from students in their junior and senior years of college.

St. Gregory’s University Students Attend March for Life

On Wednesday, Jan. 20, 21 students and four staff members from St. Gregory’s University started their 20 hour journey from Shawnee, Okla. to Washington D.C. to participate in the 2016 March for Life on Friday, Jan. 22.

"I'm really excited to go on the March for Life again," said sophomore Sarah Mohr. "I think it's a wonderful event that both educates the participants and brings the world's attention to this important pro-life issue."

St. Gregory’s Partners with Nathan Hale Jr. High with Partners in Education

St. Gregory’s University has signed on as an official partner of the Partners In Education (PIE) program. PIE began as the Adopt-A-School program in 1983. It launched as an effort to bring the business and education communities together to help meet the educational needs of students within the Tulsa Public Schools district.

St. Gregory’s University awarded accreditation of its business programs

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners has awarded St. Gregory’s University accreditation of its business programs.

"A degree from an accredited school is more valuable to students and employers. The ACBSP accreditation schools focus on student learning and success,” said Dr. Angela James, chair of St. Gregory’s Business Department. “Being ACBSP accredited is a signal to students and employers that the program meets standards of rigor and excellence required to compete in the global market place." 

St. Gregory’s to Host Graduation Fairs

St. Gregory’s University will host three Graduation Fairs for 2016 graduates from its Shawnee and Tulsa campuses. The Graduation Fairs will be held on Thursday, January 14 from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the Great Room for College of Arts and Science students, Tuesday, January 19 from 5:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. on the Tulsa campus and Thursday, January 21 from 5:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. on the 3rd floor of Benedictine Hall for Shawnee College of Continuing students.

St. Gregory’s student athletes celebrate Christmas with Heronville Elementary

The Don and Jenetta Sumner Fieldhouse was transformed into the North Pole on Friday, December 11, as student athletes from St. Gregory’s University welcomed 35 children from Heronville Elementary to campus for an early Christmas celebration.

“This was so much more than I expected it to be,” said Tiffany Olvera, kindergarten teacher from Heronville. “A lot of our kids don’t have a lot, so getting to come to a university and see where they could attend later in life, it was so heartwarming. This was a great day for our students.”

St. Gregory’s University Students Participate in Third Annual Scholar’s Day

On Monday, December 7, 21 students from St. Gregory’s University took part in the Third Annual Scholar’s Day, hosted by the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Education.

Scholar’s Day was created to give students an opportunity to present their research projects to a wider academic community in poster format, which is required by local and regional conferences.
