A Second Glance at Being: Anna Vacha to Present Senior Art Exhibition at St. Gregory’s University

St. Gregory’s University is pleased to announce the opening of Anna Vacha’s senior visual arts exhibition “A Second Glance at Being” on Friday April 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Campus Ministry Lounge, located in the Rockwood Center. The general public is invited to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments at the free event which will include live piano music by Ryoko Sanho and flute by Smaida Mara.
“A Second Glance at Being” relates to how all creation contains mystery, which is connected to God as loving Creator. Vacha’s exhibition includes paintings, chalk drawings, ceramics and children’s book illustrations.
“Art can lead to a wonder about life. In art is the potential to express a language that is universal. Art can bring together those who are apart and can point toward a path of peace and joy,” said Vacha. “Creating simple and pure images, I have tried to convey the hope and beauty that is present in our world. There are no extraordinary subject matters presented, but the very ‘ordinariness’ of what I try to capture can help show how remarkable the ‘ordinary’ is! I hope my exhibit helps those who view it, to look upon their day-to-day life with greater awe and gratitude.
Vacha, from Omaha, Neb., will graduate in May with her bachelor’s degree in visual arts. She hopes to enter a religious order soon after graduation. While at St. Gregory’s, she has sung in the Schola Cantorum and has performed in several dance productions, including choreographing a piece entitled “Angels Beholding Christ”. She was active as a resident assistant and was involved in Campus Ministry events. As a visual arts student, she has drawn portraits at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art’s annual Arts Trek event and recently drew portraits for the Shawnee community and illustrated two children’s books.
“Anna’s work represents some of the finest examples of the sacredness in everyday moments depicted in the visual arts. We are deeply appreciative of Anna’s talent, intelligence, and reflective presence in our visual arts program at St. Gregory’s University,” said Sheryl Cozad, Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at St. Gregory’s.
“A Second Glance at Being” will be on display in the Campus Ministry Lounge through Saturday, May 14. For more information about the exhibition, please contact Sheryl Cozad at secozad@stgregorys.edu.
