St. Gregory’s University’s Performing Arts Department presents ‘The Dining Room’

St. Gregory’s University’s Performing Arts Department is set to debut its final show of the 2013-2014 season, The Dining Room, this Thursday, May 1 at 8 p.m. in Sarkeys Performing Arts Center. Additional performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

St. Gregory’s Director of Theatre Carly Conklin promises audiences a unique theatrical experience with its last performance of the year.

“The Dining Room will be interesting for audiences who have been to our other plays, the last two have been comedies and this will be a bit of a departure from that,” said Conklin.

The Dining Room is centered on the idea that the dining room is a sacred space in a household. Eighteen vignettes introduce different characters and events with each scene. Six student actors portray more than 60 roles that range from kids at a birthday party to a senile grandmother at Christmas dinner.

“When we were doing the auditions for the play, we were asked what the dining room meant to us. I never really thought about it, but realized that the dining room is a huge part of my family,” said senior Conner Maguire. “Throughout the show, we joke that ‘it’s just a space’ but it’s really a significant part of families.”

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for children and can be purchased one hour prior to each performance at the box office located in the theatre lobby or by clicking here.
